Grants generally ranging from $10,000 to $50,000 to South Florida and Alabama nonprofits for environmental protection and conservation projects. Letters of intent are due by September 9. Priority for funding will be provided to support the following proposal focus areas (in descending order of size):

1. Marine resource conservation and management activities, with priority given to fisheries;
2. South Florida ecosystems, especially Treasure Coast, Everglades, Biscayne Bay, Florida Bay, and the Florida Keys; and
3. Alabama environmental issues.


Grants generally range from $10,000 to $50,000.
The average grant size ranges from about $15,000 to $25,000.

Site specific grants are limited to South Florida and Alabama.

Restrictions: No grants are made to individuals or endowment funds.

The Foundation does not accept unsolicited grant proposals. Please send a 1-2 page letter of inquiry (in regular document format, not at a PDF) before sending any additional materials.

Application Information:

1. Initial approach: Letters of inquiry are due by the second Friday in September. Letters of inquiry should contain a brief description of the program/project; total budget; measurable results, and timeframe for achieving those results. Please include a copy of your IRS 501(c)(3) letter and EIN number.

2. Proposal Deadline (if a full proposal is needed—the inquiry may be enough): October 16th

3. Grant review meetings: Mid-November (approximate date)

4. Final notification will be received within three weeks following consideration

Additional Information Requested with Full Proposals:

- One to three-year detailed budget, most recent 990, and deeper response to any questions provided by staff;
- Separate listing of "Information Requested by the Board of Directors" (if any update of information is needed);

Match Requirement:
Most grants are restricted and require 1:1 match (following receipt of the grant) and confirmation that 100% of your organization's Board of Directors are also financial donors.

Letters of inquiry may be sent via email or in hard copy to Angel Braestrup, Executive Director, by the second Friday in September. The letters should summarize one or two projects for which funding is needed. Budgets should be summarized on a separate sheet.
