Such individuals sign and certify an annual statement disclosing whether they have any potential or actual conflicts of interest with respect to the organization's operations. During discussions on grant applications, Board members are asked whether they have a conflict of interest with any applicant and, if so, to recuse themselves from the review of the application as well as the vote for approval of the grant application. In addition, CCAF's employee handbook contains a conflict of interest policy which applies to all employees; such policy is supported by the active enforcement of CCAF's whistleblower protection policy, which encourages the reporting of potential illegal and unethical conduct, including conflicts of interest. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15 In 2019, CCAF hired an outside consultant to review the current compensation and job descriptions of CCAF's workforce, including four executive positions. The consultant compared CCAF's roles to similar positions in similar California-based organizations to determine a market-based compensation range and to compare the compensation to appropriate benchmarks. Based on the consultant's report, new compensation levels were implemented in 2019 for CCAF's staff, including the four executive managers. CCAF's Board of Directors employs a separate compensation consultant to review the total compensation of the CEO every three years.
