The foundation supports organizations that promote self-sufficiency, leadership and independence. It also requires that nonprofits be well-managed and effective in their efforts. Requests are considered for general operating grants, program support and capital needs. Grants are considered for human services, youth, education and community.

Human Services
The Foundation is interested in helping people be independent and self supporting, with an emphasis on one or more of the following criteria:
◦individual self-sufficiency and responsibility
◦job skills training and assistance
◦financial management and responsibility
◦self reliance, especially for seniors and families

The Foundation has a strong focus on character and leadership development. It believes that most youth have the potential to be successful, given opportunity, knowledge and support. Requests with one or more of the following components will be given priority:
◦One-on-one mentoring
◦Year round programming
◦Leadership opportunities
◦Character building and risk taking

Knowledge is the key to opening new doors for people of every age. Programs that are not part of the public schools will be considered, especially in the areas of:
◦After school programs with an emphasis on academics
◦Financial literacy
◦Free enterprise
◦Science and technology

Healthy communities provide the backbone for individual success. The Foundation will consider proposals that encourage volunteerism and philanthropy. Capital support is considered for civic institutions that serve an entire region.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Foundation generally will not consider grants for:

◦Animals or animal-related programs
◦Churches or church projects
◦Deficit funding or retirement of debt
◦Historic renovation
◦Museums or museum projects
◦National health organizations
◦Organizations primarily supported by tax-derived funds
◦Organizations that pass funds to another organization
◦Organizations with two consecutive years of operating losses
◦Preschools, day-care centers, nursing homes, extended-care facilities, respite care, etc.
◦Primary and secondary schools or the ancillary programs and projects of those schools
◦Production of films or other media-related projects
◦Purchase of computer equipment
◦Research projects
◦Special events, meetings, seminars, etc.
◦Start-up funding - organizations must be in operation for at least one full year
◦Subsidized housing

Pre-Application Information:

A complete proposal to the Adolph Coors Foundation should include all of the following:
One-page signed cover letter
Legal name and address of applicant organization
Contact person and telephone number
Most recent copy of IRS letter of tax exemption with tax identification number
Date of establishment and brief history
Mission statement
Detail of unique aspects of program and relationships to other similar programs
Purpose and amount of grant requested, substantiation of need, project budget and anticipated results
Most recent evaluation of program outcomes and method for determining impact
Financial statement for most recent year end, preferably a copy of the audit
Current income and expense budget
Major funding sources and amounts provided
Names and occupations of board members and officers
Total amount of funding donated by board members
Number of volunteers and number of volunteer hours contributed
In-kind contributions received
The Adolph Coors Foundation also accepts the Colorado Common Grant Application.
