Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Grants for up to $140,000 to promote college education in under-served communities. The overall goal of the funding is to expose high achieving students from low income homes, or first generation students to college level education. Eligible applicants must establish residential precollege programs that will serve New Jersey students who have completed their junior year in high school. The primary goal is to better prepare students and motivate them to attend college.

Programs funded through this grant include but are not limited to recruitment activities; tutoring to improve students skills and knowledge in English language arts, mathematics, and sciences; research projects with faculty members; SAT or ACT preparation; financial planning; career workshops; public speaking classes; and educational trips.

The college or university will design its own curriculum that should highlight the unique educational opportunities being offered. Programs should focus on particular disciplines and demonstrate how education on the college level is enhanced. Programs must be campus-based, residential, and offered for three consecutive weeks during the 2011 summer. Programs should be designed for a minimum of 40 students.
