Grants totaling $800,000 to prevent and address the juvenile delinquency of youth up to the age of 18, in identified high-risk, predominantly minority neighborhoods. Programs to keep delinquent youth from jail will support and educate individuals involved with these children, address risk factors for delinquency, and help youth to achieve success in a culturally sensitive environment.
Suggested programming includes:
A. Educate school faculty, staff, and officials on the most appropriate response to delinquent behavior given the degree of severity
B. Implement Social Competency Enhancement Programming for students.
C. Convene School Accountability Boards.
D. Implement a comprehensive plan (in lieu of arrest) to deter youth from participation in delinquent behavior; motivate youth to be educationally driven; and prevent truancy, suspension and expulsion.
E. Provide culturally sensitive training regarding staff responsiveness to youth.
F. Focus activities, curricula, programs, and services in a manner that responds to the community's existing needs, gaps, or weaknesses.
G. Address school-related referrals reduction with a focus on minority over-representation
