Grants to support education and culture programming in Northern California. The purpose of the available funding is to improve education/youth development and culture/civic programs in the Oakland metropolitan area. Programs for education and youth development should target children between grades K-12. Desired outcomes include academic performance improvement, specifically via programs that support children and youth as they work to meet the literacy and math benchmarks that will lead to their future success; preparation of youth for community leadership; and promotion of positive relationships among youth from diverse cultural and ethnic groups.

The fund also offers mini grants in the area of arts and culture. This program provides small grants to assist Oakland's nonprofit cultural community. Twenty-five $1,000 grants are awarded each year for visual and performing arts events.
