Grants totaling $3,000,000 for community enhancement in Hawaii. The mission of the funding agency is to enable the building of a strong and healthy Hawaiian people and nation, recognized nationally and internationally. This RFP seeks to support non-profits providing services in one of the following areas of focus: economic self-sufficiency with a focus on raising Native Hawaiian family income; education with a focus on raising education standards so that Native Hawaiian students can meet or exceed education standards as well as increase post secondary graduation rates for Native Hawaiians; and health with a focus on decreasing obesity among Native Hawaiians.
Delivered services eligible for funding through this RFP include increasing financial literacy; assisting with individual development accounts; workforce development, including job training, job application or job readiness and skills training; self employment opportunities to supplement family income, including new Native Hawaiian business start-ups and helping existing Native Hawaiian businesses to grow by adding employees; providing networking opportunities, career counseling, and mentors; increasing access to child care; increasing standardized test scores for Native Hawaiians to meet or exceed standards; increasing graduation rates from post-secondary educational institutions; and decreasing the incidence and severity of obesity.

Up to 1 year with possibility of one annual renewal
All applicants must also attend a training workshop as a condition to submitting a project proposal. Training workshops will be held between June 20, 2011 and July 8, 2011.
Interested parties shall submit a Letter of Interest to OHA on or before 4:00 p.m. HST, Monday, June 6, 2011.
Questions regarding clarification of any information contained in the Solicitation for Proposals document, including all attachments, must be received in writing on or before July 18, 2011.
