Grants to improve the quality of life in Vermont. The mission of the Foundation is to build philanthropic resources that will sustain healthy and vital Vermont communities now and into the future. This RFP seeks organizations and agencies working to benefit communities throughout the state. The Foundation typically funds projects in the following categories:
Basic Human Needs: Children, Elderly, and Family Services; Housing, Food, and Shelter; Health.
Sustainable Communities: Arts, Humanities, and Cultural Heritage; Environment; Economic Development.
Successful Communities: Civic Engagement; Diversity and Equity; Education.
The Foundation seeks to fund organizations that:
Demonstrate community leadership, support, and collaboration; advance our vision of building healthy and vital Vermont communities; present well-documented community needs using relevant data sources; help us to reach underserved populations in geographic areas throughout the state; demonstrate program and management resources in place to achieve objectives; demonstrate consistent high performance in terms of actual outputs, outcomes, and impact; demonstrate a commitment to accountability, including involving the people served in leadership and decision-making roles; describe an organizational planning and evaluation process that regularly sets and reviews objectives; demonstrate fiscal integrity and financial sustainability; and include diverse staff and board leadership that reflect the communities served.

Public schools, municipalities, and religious institutions must apply for project support. We require that these groups contact a Foundation staff person to determine if their project is eligible for funding before applying.
