Grants to USA community-based organizations to facilitate workplace readiness for women. Applicants are advised that required registrations may take as long as four weeks to complete. Eligible programs are those that prepare women to work in fields that traditionally have fewer women workers.

The Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations (WANTO) grant helps to expand pathways for women to enter and lead in all industries by recruiting, mentoring, training, and retaining more women in quality pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs.

To be eligible, applicants must provide one or more of the following types of technical assistance:

  • Developing pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship or nontraditional skills training programs to prepare women for those careers;
  • Providing ongoing orientations for employers, unions, and workers on creating a successful environment for women to succeed in those careers; and
  • Setting up support groups, facilitating networks, and/or providing supportive services for women to improve their retention.

Applicants may propose to provide technical assistance to support women’s participation and success in the full range of industries in which women are historically underrepresented or where women are disproportionately concentrated in the lower-wage occupations. Such industries include but are not limited to advanced manufacturing, construction, energy, health care, information technology, finance, and transportation.

This grant program will help employers meet their workforce needs while bolstering women’s economic security for themselves and their families and the overall strength of the nation’s economy
