Grants starting at $5,000 will be available to Texas non-profits and government agencies to fund a broad range of general assistance and housing programs that help the state's veterans, their families, and survivors. Grants will be distributed equitably throughout the state; there will be no over-saturation or duplication of services in any area.
Service categories for General Assistance grants are as follows:
o Counseling – peer, individual/group sessions, veteran family member counseling, PTSD/TBI, equine, co-occurring, and other types of counseling
o Employment – job skills, training, job search, and other employment services
o Family Services – youth programs, family programs, reintegration/deployment readiness programs
o Financial Assistance – emergency financial assistance, short-term rental assistance, utility pay assistance, transportation assistance, and child care
o Homeless/Housing – homeless support programs, shelter, transitional living/temporary housing, at-risk homelessness prevention, rapid re-housing
o Legal – Veterans Courts, legal clinics, legal aid, and other legal services excluding criminal defense
o Referral – information and referral programs
o Supportive Services – medical assistance, elder care, food delivery programs, case management, financial counseling, and other supportive services
o Transportation – transportation assistance, transportation programs
Service categories for housing (H4TxH) grants are as follows:
o Rental Assistance – Your organization intends to provide rental assistance to veterans and their dependents.
o Housing Construction – Your organization intends to build complete single residential units for disabled veterans and their dependents.
o Housing Modification – Your organization intends to modify existing homes of disabled veterans to improve the veteran’s ease of accessibility in the home.
o Housing Assistance for Dependents of Veterans Receiving Long-Term Rehabilitation – Your organization intends to help the dependents of veterans undergoing long-term rehabilitation at a Texas medical facility with temporary housing near the medical facility.
o Homeless Housing Services – Your organization intends to work with veterans that are currently homeless with the intent of providing them permanent shelter.

Texas chapters of IRS Code 501(c)(4) veterans service organizations
Nonprofit organizations authorized to do business in Texas with experience in providing services to veterans
The following are NOT eligible to submit an application:
• For-profit entities;
• Units of federal or state government, including state agencies, colleges, and universities; and
• Organizations that have not fulfilled all legal requirements to operate in the State of Texas. Organizations must have a current Certificate of Filing from the Corporations Section of the Texas Secretary of State, and submit a copy of the filing certificate as part of the application.
Grant funds will be disbursed on a cost reimbursement basis.
