Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded to local education agencies, college or universities, state education or environmental agencies, and non-profit organizations in Delaware, D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia to assist in environmental literacy capacity building projects. Applicants must provide information on how the project will ensure that it addresses at least one of the following educational priorities: Capacity Building, Educational Advancement, Community Projects, Human Health and the Environment, EE Teaching Skills, and Career Development.

In addition, all applicants must provide information as to how they will ensure that they address at least one of EPA’s environmental priorities:
-Taking Action on Climate Change
-Improving Air Quality
-Assuring the Safety of Chemicals
-Cleaning Up Our Communities
-Protecting America’s Waters
-Expanding the Conversation on Environmentalism and Working for Environmental Justice
-Building Strong State and Tribal Partnerships

The strongest proposals will show committed partnerships from various organizations, institutions and agencies. The Trust strongly encourages grant applications for projects that increase awareness and participation of underserved communities. Preference will be given to projects that address one of the top ten ‘high priority’ needs identified by their jurisdiction’s respondents within the prioritization survey.

Not funded:
-Refreshments and T-shirts.
-Promotional collateral (e.g., Pens, key chains, etc.)
-Endowments, deficit financing, individuals, building campaigns, annual giving, research, fundraising, or venture capital.
-Mitigation.
-Construction activities.
-Political lobbying.
-Reimbursement for a project that has been completed or materials that have been purchased.
-Budget items that are considered secondary to the project’s central objective.
-Funding is generally restricted to projects on public property, private community-owned land, and conservation easements, unless otherwise specified in a grant program.
