Grant Description
Grants to Maryland nonprofit organizations, civic groups, faith-based entities, and government agencies in eligible communities to improve the quality of life for local residents. Funding is intended for programs and services within a range of focus areas including but not limited to children, older adults, substance use, housing, mental health, and social disparities. Eligible applicants serve the residents of Frederick County.

Focus Areas:

  • Supporting families with children;
  • Preparing for a growing aging population;
  • Responding to Substance Use Disorder (SUD).

In 2022 an updated human needs assessment, conducted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, revealed additional areas of need, including:

  • Supporting access to affordable housing;
  • Addressing mental health needs;
  • Alleviating disparities in service delivery.


Additional Eligibility Criteria
The Community Foundation administers grants to organizations providing direct benefits to Frederick County, Maryland.

The applicant must be:
- An already existing nonprofit, 501c3 organization in good standing with the IRS,
- A government/quasi-governmental agency applying for an extraordinary project that is not funded by tax revenue,
- A religious organization requesting funding for non-sectarian activities, or
- A civic group that is not a 501c3 organization requesting funding for a community cause.

In addition, 501c3 organizations must be in good standing with:
• Maryland Secretary of State's charitable division
• Department of Assessments and Taxation's Maryland personal property tax division
• IRS, as assessed via GuideStar’s Charity Check

Pre-Application Information
The application round opens on July 15, 2023, and closes on August 15, 2023.

Multiple applications are permitted.

Applicants will be notified in late September.

Estimated Size of Grant
Minimum request: $1,000; no maximum amount.

Term of Contract
Grants must be used during the period of November 1, 2023, through March 31, 2025.
