Grants to California nonprofit organizations for arts and culture activities benefiting local residents in the cities of Ventura and Ojai. Funding is intended to support projects related to the performing arts, museums, arts education and access, fine arts, and historical societies.

The Smith-Hobson Foundation Fund focuses on educational and cultural projects and activities of locally based organizations. The Board of the Smith-Hobson Foundation may solicit or recommend grants outside of these funding priorities.

The Ventura County Community Foundation looks for projects where a moderate amount of grant money may affect a significant result, and where there is a well-planned and/or new approach to solving community problems. The Foundation encourage proposals with cooperation and partnering among charitable organizations.

Each applicant must be a 501(c)(3) not for profit community based organization.

Non-profit agencies must have an active Board of Directors and provide information indicating financial viability and capacity to conduct the project to be funded.
Although Donor Advised Funds may recommend grants anywhere in the world, the VCCF Competitive Grants Program makes grants only to nonprofit organizations that serve Ventura County. The Board of the Smith-Hobson Foundation may solicit or recommend grants with broader geographic focus; such grants will be solicited directly by the Smith-Hobson Foundation.

Grants will not be made for political or partisan purposes, religious activities, general operating shortfalls, endowment funds, annual fund drives, or budget deficits.

The Foundation does not consider individuals for funding for this grant program.
