Grants of up to $4,000 will be awarded to Arizona (primarily Southern Arizona) non-profits for food and nutrition related programs that support community and individual self-reliance with the goal of assuring stable, culturally relevant, and quality food supplies. Funding is provided for programs that help build sustainable local food systems that provide continual access to affordable and nutritious food from non-emergency suppliers. Examples of such programs are:

* Urban agriculture;
* Community and backyard gardens;
* Increased access to affordable fresh produce;
* Farmers’ markets;
* Training on food processing: preservation, preparation, and marketing;
* Nutrition education and food self-reliance;
* Training and support expenses of volunteers and staff dedicated to CFS;
* Workshops, video productions, and retreats.
