Grants starting at $50,000 are available to California non-profits, for-profit corporations, institutions of higher education, local education agencies, and others to provide scholastic enrichment programs for 9-12th graders. Eligible programs provide academic assistance, educational enrichment, and family literacy services for at least 15 hours/week outside of school hours. These hours can be after school only, or after school and any combination of before school, weekends, summer, intersession, and vacation.

The programs will partner schools and communities to provide academic support; safe, constructive alternatives for high school students; and assistance in passing the California High School Exit Exam. Applicants are required to plan their programs through a collaborative process that includes parents, youth, and representatives of participating schools or local educational agencies, governmental agencies (e.g., cities, counties, parks and recreation departments), community organizations, and the private sector.
