Grants of up to $5,000 are available in Arkansas to non-profit or not-for-profit organizations to help communities and organizations develop meaningful heritage preservation events and programs in their areas. This year's theme is: Saving our Heritage: Arkansas’s Historic Structures. Funds are intended to help save important places in Arkansas, including local museums and historical societies as well as private homes and businesses.

Not funded:
-Ongoing operating cost
-Academic research, unless the research results in an ongoing component that can be shared by the community
-Programs or events that disregard the need to preserve, protect or conserve historic sites, structures, artifacts and the environment, or are outside of accepted professional museum or environmental standards.
-Infrastructure (bricks and mortar) construction, staff salaries (although contracted personnel may be paid with grant funds), travel by paid staff members (although travel for contracted personnel is allowed)
-Capital outlay (e.g., office equipment, computers, cameras and furniture)

The project must occur during the month of May and funds expended by June 15.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The applicant must be a non-profit or not-for-profit organization.

Ineligible:
Agencies of local, county or state government, however, collaborative efforts, such as friends groups involving state agencies, are acceptable.

Pre-Application Information:

-Grants will be awarded in February for Heritage Month events to be held in May.
-Grant awards require a 25 percent match, either in cash and/or in-kind.
-Only one Arkansas Heritage Month Grant will be made to any one organization during any given grant year.
-Grant recipients will be required to participate in an orientation program prior to receipt of award, at a place and time specified by the Department of Arkansas Heritage.
