Grants to Rhode Island nonprofit organizations that improve the quality of life in Aquidneck Island and in the city of Newport. Funding is intended for programs that help foster vibrancy in the local communities. Key funding areas of interest include the following:

Arts and Culture Heritage:

The Trusts will support organizations that:
- Maintain the historic character of Newport
- Present and produce arts and culture in Newport

Protecting the Environment of Aquidneck Island through Land Use, Conservation, and Resiliency Strategies:

The Trusts support organizations that:
- Preserve and protect open space and wildlife habitat
- Support smart growth and coordinated planning
- Preserve, protect, and restore Narragansett Bay
- Develop strategies for adapting to a changing climate (i.e. sea level rise, extreme weather events)
- Protect farmland and sustainable, healthy food production

Providing Holistic Support for the Health, Development, and Advancement of Newport's Most Vulnerable Residents:

The Trusts support organizations that:
- Provide support and resources to women designed to build their self-sufficiency or protect their rights to make their own health care decisions
- Offer strong youth development programs or educational programs
- Develop the capacity of, offers important services to, or meet the basic needs of vulnerable individuals

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Trusts make grants only to charitable organizations that are exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and are classified as public charities under Sections 509(a)(1) or 509(a)(2).

The Trusts do not fund projects that promote or proselytize any religion. While the Trusts do fund the projects of faith-based organizations, those projects must be secular in nature.

The Trusts do not fund organizations that discriminate on the basis of ethnicity, race, color, creed, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any veteran’s status.

Pre-Application Information:

The application deadline is Tuesday, May 1.

Proposals to Prince Charitable Trusts are only accepted through the eGrant.net online grant program.

For 2018, Prince Charitable Trusts will accept new proposals for the Rhode Island grantmaking program. This is a change from the previous two years in which proposals were only accepted from current grantees.

Within one month of a deadline, organizations will be informed in writing about whether the proposal request falls within the guidelines of the Trusts.

Once a proposal has been received, the applicant will be notified if the Trust needs additional information, and a site visit may be scheduled.

Within six months of the proposal submission deadline, organizations will be notified as to whether the request has been funded.
