Grants will be awarded in Maryland to Baltimore-based community groups for projects that create a healthier and more attractive neighborhood through greening activities. Funds may be requested for: park and recreation center maintenance and enhancement projects; projects that will improve the health and cleanliness of local waterways; and greening projects for neighborhoods.

Projects should:
Engage volunteers in project development, implementation and maintenance;
Build leadership within the community;
Include a clear and logical plan for maintenance and sustainability;
Benefit the community and the physical environment; and
Occur in a neighborhood with a need for financial assistance for the project proposed.

Not funded:
-Private contractors with the exception of one-time services that exceed the capacity of the group
-Gas-powered tools
-Staff costs

Estimated Size of Grant:

Neighborhood Greening Grants - up to $1,000; Clean Water Mini-Grants - up to $250.

Term of Contract:

One year.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

-Any community-based group may apply
-Does not have to be an incorporated non-profit
-Must have a group bank account OR fiscal agent
-Project must benefit Baltimore city communities: Under certain circumstances projects located in Baltimore County that will directly and significantly improve the environmental quality of Baltimore City will be considered.
-All applicants are required to:
*Send a representative to one grant application training workshop.
*Participate in a consultation with a Parks & People representative before submitting an application.
*Take part in a site visit with a Parks & People representative.

If you can't make one of the workshops, please email Valerie Rupp or call her at (410) 448-5663 ext. 114 prior to the final workshop for the round to arrange a time to review program requirements and resources.

Pre-Application Information:

-The Letter of intent is due June 28, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. for Neighborhood Greening Grants and Partnership for Parks Grants.

-A two-page Clean Water Mini-Grant application may be submitted by completing the final two pages of the Neighborhood Greening Grant application.

-Activities seeking support should not be completed before funds are awarded.
