Grants to New Jersey nonprofit organizations and government agencies in eligible locations to provide housing opportunities to those in need. Funding is intended for programs that offer temporary rental assistance and stabilization services to assist individuals and families living on the streets or in emergency shelters, and to support prevention efforts for households at imminent risk of homelessness due to eviction. Eligible applicants serve Atlantic, Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Essex, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Monmouth, Ocean, Passaic, Salem, and Sussex Counties.

Target populations: Homeless households and households at imminent risk of becoming homeless, including:

  • People who are living in a place not meant for human habitation, in an emergency shelter, in transitional housing, or are exiting an institution where they temporarily resided 
  • People who are losing their primary nighttime residence, which may include a motel or hotel or a doubled-up situation, within 14 days and lack resources or support networks to remain in housing
  • Families with children or unaccompanied youth who are unstably housed and likely to continue in that state
  • People who are fleeing or attempting to flee domestic violence, have no other residence, and lack the resources or support networks to obtain other permanent housing.

Allowable costs include financial assistance(rental assistance, rental arrears, security deposits, utility deposits, utility payments), case management, credit repair, moving cost assistance, housing search/placement, data collection/evaluation, and administrative fees.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Government entities and nonprofit organizations may apply.

Nonprofits serving Atlantic, Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Essex, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Monmouth, Ocean, Passaic, Salem, and Sussex Counties that have at least 5 years of experience administering homelessness prevention and rapid rehousing programs may apply. Agencies selected must serve the entire county.
