Grants of up to $7,500 to Iowa wildlife conservation organizations to promote wildlife conservation projects throughout the State. Funding is intended to support the management of animal habitat and species diversity projects that include, but are not limited to, the restoration and reconstruction of natural habitats, equipment purchases benefiting wildlife diversity, species monitoring, and community prescribed burning cooperatives to help put proper management on private lands.

The Iowa DNR's Wildlife Diversity Program is making small grants available for habitat management projects directly related to wildlife diversity conservation. The immediate goals of the project should be synonymous with the goals of Iowa’s Wildlife Action Plan (IWAP) and should benefit Species of Greatest Conservation Need. (See

$7,500 is the maximum amount available per proposal request.

Term of Contract:

Funding will begin on or before May 15, 2020.

Approved projects will be funded on a single-year basis but can be submitted for additional funding in subsequent years (not to exceed 3 years in succession), though it should be noted up front if a project will likely be multi-year.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Proposals will be accepted from any organization engaged in management for the benefit of wildlife conservation. All DNR Partners including County Conservation Boards, Sportsman’s Groups, non-profit conservation organizations, and any organization involved in land management with wildlife conservation purposes may apply.

Pre-Application Information:

Proposals must be received before 5pm on November 1, 2019.

Notice of proposals acceptance or decline will be sent to all applicants by March 1, 2020. Funding will be available by May 15, 2020.

No match is required for these funds. However, if the project will cost a great deal more than what is requested in the grant application, the source of additional funding must be listed and secured. Projects with other funding sources pending will not score as highly and would not be notified whether it had been accepted prior to the additional funding being secured.
