Grants of up to $10,000 to Minnesota water suppliers to protect drinking water for the benefit of residents across the State. Funding is intended to support activities that manage or eradicate contamination of public waters. Eligible uses include wellhead protection activities focused on groundwater and surface water used for the public water supply.

Competitive Grants for community and noncommunity nontransient systems

  • Will help implement source water protection measures regardless of whether or not a community or noncommunity nontransient public water supplier has a wellhead protection plan in place;
  • Support management of a potential contamination source that presents a high risk to a source of drinking water as determined by the MDH.

Estimated Size of Grant:

The minimum amount for any grant is $500 and the maximum amount is $10,000.

When more than one qualifying community or nontransient noncommunity PWS applies under the same grant request, the cap amount will be increased by as much as $10,000 for each additional PWS up to a maximum grant amount of $30,000 if three or more PWS apply jointly.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Public Water System are eligible to apply.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications are open in April and October for Competitive Grants.

Must include an equal financial cost share amount.

Each eligible PWS can submit only one application per grant program announcement.
