A grant of $74,200 per year is available to a Wisconsin non-profit to provide technical assistance to community groups, local governments, and conservation organizations seeking to conserve and protect the natural environment and resources of urban areas. The grantee will increase the state's capacity for urban conservation, protect the urban forest, water resources, or other projects that will benefit urban open spaces.
The grantee shall do all of the following:
* Provide community groups, nonprofit conservation organizations and local governments technical assistance in the areas of urban open space real estate transactions, reclaiming and restoring the natural values of urban parks, urban forests and open space areas, designing and constructing amenities in open space areas, cultivating citizen participation in acquiring, developing and maintaining open space areas and securing public financing for open space areas,
* Conduct conferences or provide training opportunities related to the topics listed above; and
* Assist community groups, nonprofit organizations and local governmental units in acquiring urban property for open space purposes and in restoring urban property acquired for conservation, recreation and other open space purposes.
An organization receiving this grant may also acquire urban property for conservation, recreation and other open space purposes.
