Grants ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 to California nonprofits and schools that address the needs of at-risk children and young adults in the Sacramento and Central Valley. Funded programs should specifically address the areas of literacy and transition-age foster youth. Priorities for these two areas are outlined below.

1. Literacy: Programs that help children and young people learn to read, improve their reading comprehension, and improve their school performance.
2. Transition-Age Foster Youth: Programs that provide bridge services, assistance, and opportunities for young people between the ages of 16 and 24 who are, or have been, in foster care.

Grant awards will range from $5,000 to $50,000.

Term of Contract:

This grant cycle funds activity from July 2019 - June 2020.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible nonprofits are those that primarily serve residents within:
- The Central Valley (Fresno, Kings, and Madera Counties); or
- The Sacramento Valley (Sacramento, Placer, Yolo, and El Dorado Counties).

Public schools are eligible to apply if their proposed project meets one of the defined priority needs described in the RFP packet.

Golden 1 applauds cost-saving collaborations and welcomes proposals from more than one program being provided support by a fiscal sponsor.

Pre-Application Information:

Proposals will be accepted from January 30 through March 10, 2019 by midnight.

Award Announcements: Friday, June 29, 2019

Grants more than $10,000 will be paid in two payments; the first half in July 2019 and the second in December 2020, after successful completion of a mid-grant cycle check-in in the Fall.
