Grants with a total estimated value of between $2,500 - $3,000 will be awarded in the prairie region of North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota to early childhood educators (birth – age eight), local business, and communities to encourage literacy. Funds are intended for programs that expose children and parents to the benefits of early literacy while engaging in a fun and interactive experience.

Family Literacy Events will promote literacy through reading, singing, drawing, writing, and talking with children to enhance and develop children's literacy skills. Opportunities will be available to showcase local talent through storytellers and performers.

The Family Literacy Events should build partnerships to ensure community wide literacy awareness and year around literacy initiatives, and encourage families from all backgrounds to attend, ensuring equality for all populations.
