Grants to Souris Valley Area, North Dakota public agencies, faith-based and secular nonprofit organizations, and units of government, including schools, public libraries, and health districts, for programs and projects that focus on meeting basic needs, education, income, and health. Priorities for each of these focus areas are outlined below.
Education – Help All Achieve Their Potential:
- Children Enter School Ready to Succeed: Promote reading and literacy so children read proficiently by 4th grade
- Productive and Engaged Youth: Engage youth in positive behavior, peer programming, and/or mentoring activities
- Adult Life Skills: Provide comprehensive programs to help develop skills for daily living
Income – Promote Financial Stability and Independence for Families and Individuals:
- Emergency assistance for individuals and families in need
- Promote a stable living environment for individuals and families:
* Promote programs that provide financial education
* Increase funding and availability of child care assistance/scholarships
Health – Improve People’s Health and Wellness
- Healthy Nutrition for all:
* Provide at-risk children supplemental food on weekends during the school year
* Support summer feeding program for at-risk youth
* Nutritious food and meals for individuals and families who experience food insecurities
- Mental and Emotional Wellness
* Counseling and advocate programs for youth who are victims or involved in substance abuse
* Shelter programs for victims of violence and homelessness
* Support programs which allow individuals and families to remain in their homes
- Healthy Behaviors
* Training on healthy living and eating for youth and adults
* Programs that provide youth with positive values and self-confidence
* Services or advocate programs that provide positive individual or family experience
