Illinois Department of Transportation
Grants are available to Illinois municipalities, schools, and others for projects that enable and encourage children in grades K-8 to walk or bike safely to school. Funding will be provided for the designing, planning, and constructing of infrastructure improvements to make it safer for students walking and bicycling to school. Funds will also be provided for traffic education and enforcement, student safety, health, and environmental education, and public awareness campaigns.
