Grants to McHenry County, Illinois non-profits and units of government to provide local seniors with social services and transportation, and to support senior citizen centers. LOIs are due by June 23, 2017. Funds may be used to provide transportation vehicles and services, social services targeting senior citizens, supportive social services designed to prevent the unnecessary institutionalization of elderly residents, and the operation of and equipment for senior citizen centers.
McHenry County Senior Service Grant Commission request proposals from units of government and not for profit organizations for programs and projects providing transportation and social services for McHenry County seniors. Grants awarded from this Fund must be used for the exclusive benefit of McHenry County senior citizens.
Additional Program Qualifications:
-No one program can receive more than 25% of available grant funds in a given fiscal year.
-Any not-for-profit charitable organization applying for Senior Services Grant Funding must have been in operation, with 501(c)(3) status, for at least one year prior to submittal of a Letter of Intent (LOI) to Seek Funding. Applicants not meeting this requirement may be considered for funding if affiliated with, and receiving support from, a nationally recognized parent organization.
-Priority will be given to those agencies and proposals which have an established and favorable track record of providing senior service within McHenry County.
-It is strongly encouraged that at least 60% of the requested grant funding be directed toward individuals or senior citizen households with an income that is at or below 80% of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Area Median Income (AMI) for the Section 8 Program.
-Hospitals (for institutional programs and services)
-Nursing Homes (for institutional programs and services)
-Purely social organizations
-Political parties or candidates
-Advertising journals, booklets, etc.
-Construction or capital projects (unless funding is used to increase service capacity for which the non-profit organization has already been funded). However, support may not be used as a bank guarantee.
-Non-direct service agencies (defined as agencies that provide administrative, technical, or facility management services to direct service agencies but which do not provide eligible services directly to seniors).
-Start up agencies (defined as agencies that have not provided any services to any member of the public prior to submission of an application to the Senior Services Grant Fund)
- Debt service payments
- Preparation of grant applications
On Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 2:00 PM, CDT, County Staff will host an informational meeting to review the Letter of Intent procedures and respond to questions from potential grantees. The meeting will be held in Conference Rooms B & C at the McHenry County Administration Building located at 667 Ware Road, Woodstock, IL 60098. Interested applicants are highly encouraged to attend this meeting.
Interested applicants should first complete the McHenry County Senior Services Grant Program Letter of Intent Form. This form will be available on May 12, 2017 by Close of Business along with a Senior Services Grant Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) and will be due June 23, 2017 by 4:00 PM CDT. One LOI must be submitted for each project or program.
Based on the Letters of Intent received, grant seekers will be notified on July 21, 2017 (after the meeting of the Senior Services Grant Commission) if they should submit a full grant application for funding from the Senior Services Grant Fund.

June 23, 2017: Letters of Intent (LOI) due by 4:00 PM CDT
July 21, 2017: SSGC Decisions on Letters of Intent Proceeding to Full Application
July 24, 2017: Full Application Released to Qualifying Providers
August 31, 2017: Full Application Due by 4:00 PM CDT
September 22, 2017: Application Hearings
