Grants to Meaford, Ontario nonprofit organizations for civic events, festivals, projects, and programs that enhance the local community. Eligible requests are those that align with the funding source's strategic priorities of strengthening the community by providing services and events to the residents and visitors of the Municipality of Meaford.

Funds are available for events, projects or initiatives that both make a significant contribution to the community and promote the Municipality's vision, values, and strategic priorities.

These grants support the future description of the municipality as a welcoming and authentic community; safe, accessible, active, vibrant, and green.

The following grant categories are established:

- Civic Events (Canada Day, Heritage Day, etc.)
- Festivals and Fairs
- Community One-Time Projects
- Community Programs (up to a maximum of 20% of administrative costs)

The following priorities were determined by Council:

- Strengthening the Community: Foster identity and unity; celebrate heritage; promote arts and culture; enhance parks and recreation; encourage volunteer engagement
- Growing our Economy: Become business ready; establish Meaford as a tourism destination; enhance strategic partnerships
- Ensuring Sustainability: Protect natural heritage and the environment; support the agricultural sector; foster a caring community; engage in social development

Applications will be evaluated based on the following:

- Demonstrated need
- Contributions to the community
- Promotion of the Municipality’s vision, values, and strategic priorities
- Good financial management and organizational ability
- Other partners, other sources of funding, support of volunteers

Estimated Size of Grant:

No organization shall receive more than 10% of the overall annual funding.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The applicant must be a not-for-profit or charitable organization operating in the Municipality of Meaford. Groups may be sponsored by a qualified donee. Events must occur in the Municipality of Meaford.

The applicant must demonstrate sound organizational ability.

The following costs are not covered: fee waivers, travel or accommodation, uniforms, personal equipment, consultant costs, food, beverage or alcohol, and borrowing costs.

Grants cannot be used:

- To support ongoing operating costs
- Be in response to annual fundraising
- To cover deficits
- To retire debts
- To increase endowment funds
- To fund activities that serves primarily the membership or purposes of religious or political organizations.

Organizations that can operate and provide an adequate level of service without public funding and who cannot demonstrate need should not receive funding.

The community grant cannot be used in such a fashion to achieve an operating surplus that can be donated to a separate group or entity.

Pre-Application Information:

There are two application cycles per year, with the 2018 application deadlines being Friday April 13, 2018 and Friday August 31, 2018. At least 20% of the budgeted funds will be reserved for the second intake of applications.

Applications must be submitted in full by 4:00 p.m. on the published deadline, including all necessary additional documentation.

Council have requested that all organizations applying for grants through the 2018 Community Grant Program make a short presentation. The presentations will be scheduled for a Special Council meeting on Monday May 7 (First Intake) and Monday September 17 (Second Intake). Please ensure a member of your organization will be available. Staff will be in touch with more information after receiving your application.
