Fellowships to USA research scientists affiliated with nonprofit organizations, universities, and government agencies to carry out agricultural research at an Israeli institution. The goal of this program is to provide a means for established scientists to contribute to agricultural research activities in Israel.

Scientists will engage in one or more of the following: 

  • Participate in a joint short research endeavor
  • Introduce innovative methods and techniques in the Israeli host's lab
  • Interact with students in the host’s lab or other Israeli laboratories to support and encourage their research endeavors
  • Give lecture series
  • Participate in seminars, workshops and other exchanges of scientific knowledge with Israeli counterparts in departments and institutions outside those of the host’s lab

The primary criteria considered are the credentials of the fellow and his ability to introduce innovative scientific methods and ideas to the host lab, the scientific merit and innovation of the proposed work, its relevance to agriculture, the cooperation in the proposed and future research, and the benefit that can be derived from the candidate's interaction with the Israeli scientific community.

Estimated Size of Grant:

The award is $3,000 per month to cover living expenses of the fellow's stay in Israel plus $2,000 to cover travel costs.

Term of Contract:

The duration of the fellowship is between two to twelve months.

The award is to be initiated no later than December 31st of the award year.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Citizens of the United States who are research scientists affiliated with a US nonprofit research institution, university, federal or state agency are eligible to apply.

Pre-Application Information:

The next submission deadline for Senior Research is January 18, 2021.

The Executive Director notifies all applicants in writing of the decision of the Board of Directors during the month of May following submission of the proposal.

The recipient must inform BARD of acceptance of the award within two months of notification.
