Grants to Mat-Su Borough, Alaska K-12 schools for health programs and to promote a healthier school environment. Funding is intended to improve physical education, health education and nutrition in order to reduce the nationwide prevalence of childhood obesity.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must be a K-12 school, public or private, physically located in the Mat-Su Borough (with the exception of Alaska Middle College, which is eligible for funding).

As part of the 2015 Healthy Schools Grant application, schools are required to:

- Convene a school wellness council.
- Use the Healthy Schools Program School Health Index to assess the school's current efforts.
- Develop an action plan based on what's important and achievable in the school community.
- Identify resources that can facilitate implementation of the action plan.
- Draft a budget.
