Grant Description
Grants to Indiana public, charter, and accredited nonpublic elementary schools to improve literacy among K-2 students. Funding is intended for diagnostic assessments and intervention programming. The goal of the program is to enhance student engagement, increase student literacy achievement, and better equip teachers to meet the needs of students.

The Indiana Early Intervention Grant (EIG) exists to improve early literacy through intervention programming. EIG provides funding for research-based professional development, programming, and assessments (including assessments for learning characteristics related to dyslexia) to increase student achievement of literacy and equip teachers to respond to student needs.

Corporations and schools may use funds to support the following: 

  • Intervention programs based on the Science of Reading framework, focused on the five components of reading and corresponding training to support the implementation. 
  • A diagnostic assessment or screener that aligns with evidence-based core reading programs or to that is used to identify learning characteristics related to dyslexia and the corresponding training to support implementation.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
This grant is open to all accredited public school corporations, charter, accredited non-public, and Choice schools that contain kindergarten, first grade, and/or second grade students.

Funding is allocated evenly per student serviced. The estimated allocation is approximately $10.01 per student served. The actual amount may be higher or lower depending on the total number of grant participants.
