Grants of $1,000 to Virginia public schools, classes, and programs to send students in grades 5 and 6 on field trips to a park in Northern Virginia. Students will have the opportunity to participate in team-building and environmental education programming offered on site. The grant may be used towards field trip costs associated with transportation and the Environmental Education, Team Development, and Zip Line Program.
NOVA Parks, in cooperation with Adventure Links, introduces students to a quiet wilderness with impressive possibilities at the 228-acre Hemlock Overlook Regional Park.
Adventure Links, operator of Hemlock Overlook Regional Park, offers a variety of programs. A suggested program may include the Team Development Course, the Zip Line Program and Environmental Education. The typical cost of a 4-6 hour program with Adventure Links at Hemlock Overlook is $45.00 per student.
In compliance with Virginia Standards of Learning, a two hour environmental education component is provided. This program introduces students to the diverse ecosystems that coexist with the world they know, leaving them with perspective and knowledge of their natural surroundings. Students will discover habitats of mid-Atlantic flora and fauna through hands-on exploration. Applicants may pick from watershed studies or ecology exploration curriculum for an eye-opening experience. Please note that participation in the Environmental Education component is required to receive the grant.
