Grants to Indiana nonprofit organizations to support the development of the State's livestock industry. Funding is intended for conventions, expositions, educational programs and projects, and other promotional activities that support expanding markets. Funding is also available for feasibility studies, research, market development, and other related projects necessary to develop additional business and industry related to livestock production, processing, and distribution.

The Indiana State Department of Agriculture will award Livestock grants through a competitive review process to non-profit organizations, commissioners, and associations in the following livestock species: cattle, swine, sheep, equine, goats, poultry, camelids, ostriches, cervidae, bison, aquaculture, and rabbits. Authorization for this program is established under the Indiana Code 15-11-5-1.  

Grant proposals will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Only one grant application per organization will be considered.
  • The organization has a track record of success with its own general programming.
  • Project is needed by the livestock sector and has strong industry support. 
  • Project has clear identifiable goals and demonstrates tangible benefits for the livestock industry segment and for Indiana’s overall food and agriculture economy.
  • Project has clear criteria by which to evaluate the success of the project.  Project clearly outlines the goal, identifies the objectives to meet the goals, and the milestones/activities to be accomplished. 
  • Goals and expected outcomes are verifiable, measurable, and realistic for the scope of the project.
  • Budget is complete and detailed.  Each item is listed and justified. 
  • The grant request is not for operational funding or capital expenses such as buildings, vehicles, livestock pens, large equipment, etc. which are not permissible in grant requests.
  • ISDA will be recognized for providing funds to the project. 
  • ISDA will announce the selected grant recipients, with information about the projects and funding amounts, via a press release and other communication channels.

Estimated Size of Grant:

The grants will reimburse up to 50 percent of the amount spent to conduct or support the projects, programs ,and events outlined.

Term of Contract:

Projects should conclude by December 31, 2020.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The grants are open to non-profit organizations, commissions, and associations with a nonprofit status involving the following livestock species: cattle, swine, sheep, equine, goats, poultry, camelids, ostriches, cervidae, bison, aquaculture and rabbits.

- December 31, 2020: Grant term ends

All applications for ISDA grants must be accompanied by a W-9 and Direct Deposit Authorization form.
