Grants to Colorado nonprofit organizations and PreK-12 public school teachers, staff, and administrators in eligible locations for academic enrichment programs, materials, and technology. Applicants must submit a letter of inquiry prior to submitting a full application. Grants are intended to assist educators in serving students of all ages, abilities, and academic interest areas in Durango School District 9-R.

Areas that are funded:

  • Classroom needs not funded by the 9-R District budget
  • Academic Programs: pilot, innovative, collaborative, and/or regular ongoing
  • Programs to build or reward character, improve study habits, or encourage academic proficiency
  • Education in Visual and/or Performing Arts
  • Professional development expenses that are a part of a larger grant proposal
  • Programs offered by community organizations serving 9-R students

Technology Requests: Applicants must inquire with 9-R Technology Department to ensure item(s) meet standard lists and infrastructure requirements (i.e. connectivity, Wi-Fi, installation).

Term of Contract:

Grants must be fully implemented within one year of award. Exceptions must have DEF approval.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grants are open to any teacher, staff member or administrator in Durango School District 9-R. They are also open to other nonprofit organizations with programs that serve the students in Durango 9-R.

Areas that will not be awarded:
- Staff, substitute, and administrative salaries
- Professional development expenses, except if they are a part of a larger grant proposal
- Items otherwise adequately funded (or planned to be funded) in the 9-R budget
- Athletics, e.g. programs, travel, facilities, or equipment

For Organizations Outside of School District 9-R: Organization must be a 501(c)3 non-profit. Grant must impact 9-R classrooms. Use of a 9-R facility or incorporation into a 9-R program will require building supervisor’s permission; please document permission(s) in your grant. Note: technology and materials purchased within this grant become property of Durango School District 9-R; exceptions can be made by DEF.

Application Instructions:

2. Submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) and discuss your grant proposal with the Executive Director to ensure it will be considered by the DEF Grants Committee.
3. Prepare & Submit your Application through our automated system. Don’t forget to prepare your budget and include quotes – these will be the only attachment(s) you will need to upload.
4. Contact DEF to schedule a school visit with a DEF representative to view your grant in action
5. Submit your Post-Grant Evaluation after implementation, if your grant is funded. Don’t forget to take photographs – obtain permission to photograph students before submitting them to DEF!!
