Grants to Maryland nonprofit agencies in eligible locations to provide school-based programming. Funding is intended to support enriching educational programs for local students. Focus areas include early childhood development, literacy and language, youth mental health, career readiness, addiction prevention, parental engagement and support, student access to equipment and technology, and mentoring. Eligible host schools must have a student enrollment population of 10% or more or at least 150 City of Gaithersburg resident students.

The City strongly encourages collaboration among businesses, agencies and organizations to foster comprehensive, coordinated/cost-effective equitable service delivery to City residents representing a broad diversity in age, education, race and cultural background. Agencies that offer services within or easily accessible to City residents, who follow a culturally competent and outcomes-oriented service delivery plan, and who continually outreach to meet the needs of a diverse community are encouraged to apply.

Priority funding will be awarded to programs that:

  • Have clear and committed collaboration partnerships or collaboration plans with City of Gaithersburg departments and Youth Opportunities Coalition.
  • Focus on extra-curricular and after school activities.
  • Engage in equitable and creative outreach and student engagement within all cultural communities.

Focus Areas: Grant program application focus areas, as determined by ongoing needs assessments, documented needs as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, and input from City youth, schools and area service providers, must address one of the following areas:

  • Youth Mental Health Support to include after school programs. Examples include sports, dance and recreation including field trips
  • Career & Employment
  • Parental Engagement & Support
  • Addiction Prevention
  • Student Access to Needed Equipment & Technology
  • Early Childhood Development
  • Mentoring
  • Literacy & Language Initiatives from Cradle to Career

Term of Contract:

The City of Gaithersburg will be offering six-month awards with the option to award for an additional six months pending documentation of contract compliance and subject to revisions within a given scope of work to address emerging community needs.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The City of Gaithersburg, through the Educational Enrichment Committee, is seeking not for profit, 501(c)(3) agencies to partner with specific schools in the Gaithersburg area to apply for FY22 School-Based Nonprofit Grants. This grant program is designed to support nonprofit agencies that provide school-based programming to City youth in partnership with an eligible Elementary (starting with Pre-K), Middle or High School.

Pre-proposal Conference:

An information session on the grant programs and portal access will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2021 from Noon to 1 p.m. Please email grants@gaithersburgmd.gov to receive the link to the virtual training.

Pre-Application Information:

The online portal will be available as of April 1.
