Grant Description
Grants to Nebraska nonprofit organizations, government agencies, individuals, and businesses for projects and programs related to waste management. Funding is intended for activities and projects that include but are not limited to collecting hazardous waste, composting yard waste, recycling facilities and systems, waste reduction, and projects involving scrap tires. The grant supports activities that reduce litter and waste and promote recycling in Nebraska.

The Waste Reduction and Recycling Incentive Grants Fund provides grants to assist in financing sound integrated waste management programs and projects. These programs and projects include, but are not limited to:

  • Recycling systems;
  • Market development for recyclable materials;
  • Intermediate processing facilities;
  • Facilities using recyclable materials in new products;
  • Yard waste composting and composting with sewage sludge;
  • Waste reduction and materials exchange;
  • Household hazardous waste programs;
  • Consolidation of solid waste disposal facilities and use of transfer stations; and
  • Incineration for energy recovery.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility and general rules for application:
• You (or your organization) must be in compliance with the Department’s laws, regulations, and permits.
• You must be able to conduct business in Nebraska (e.g. an individual must be old enough or a corporation must be registered with the Secretary of State and remains in active status).
• If applying as an individual, you must be a Citizen of the United States or a qualified alien under the federal Immigration and Nationality Act and provide your social security number on the application.

Ineligible
The following expenses are not eligible for reimbursement.
- Beautification expenses
- Equipment Insurance
- Property Tax
- Employee Bonus/Recognition Expense
- Food & Beverage Costs Unrelated to Travel
- Late Fees or Interest Charged on Invoices
- Trash Bins or any Receptible Designed to Collect Trash
- Landfill Closure Assessment, Closure, Monitoring and Remediation
- Prizes, Gift Cards, or Donations of any Kind
- Guest/Non-Staff Travel Expenses

Pre-Application Information
For 2024 grants, grant applications will be available beginning June 28, 2023 with a deadline of August 9, 2023, 4:00 p.m. CDT

Grant funds are distributed through reimbursement of actual expenses. You can apply for more than one grant in the same year.
