Awards to Illinois full-time public or non-public school leaders and teachers in eligible counties. Eligible teachers and school leaders work in the following Counties: Will, McHenry, Lake, Kane, DuPage, and Cook. Awards are intended to acknowledge outstanding teachers and school leaders who have exhibited exemplary performance and who have contributed to building a stronger, better-educated society.

There are two awards being offered this year:

Golden Apple Award - Teacher candidates must have taught in PreK-3rd grade for a minimum of five years or be in the process of completing their 5th year of teaching.

Golden Apple Stanley C. Golder Leadership Award - School leader candidates must have served as PreK-12th grade principal, or head of school, or leader at one or more public or non-public schools for five or more consecutive school years.

Estimated Size of Grant:

The teacher Award recipients receive:
- Induction into the esteemed Golden Apple Academy of Educators
- Recognition on a WTTW one-hour TV program and livestream marketed to local school communities
- A paid spring quarter sabbatical at Northwestern University in Evanston (recipients may take as many courses as they wish in any subjects they choose)
- A $5,000 cash award

The leader Award recipient receives:
- Recognition on a WTTW one-hour TV program and livestream marketed to local school communities
- A cash award of $10,000 with $5,000 going toward the administrator’s professional development and $5,000 to the school for a project of the recipient’s choosing

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible Golden Apple Award Teacher Candidates:
- Classroom teachers currently teaching in PreK-3rd grade full-time at a public or non-public school in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will counties
- Candidates must have taught for a minimum of five years or be in the process of completing their 5th year of teaching
- Candidates who are committed to continuing to teach in Illinois for at least two years after completing the sabbatical

Eligible Golden Apple Stanley C. Golder Leadership Award Candidates:
- Any PreK-12th grade principal, head of school, or leader of a public or non-public school in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties in Illinois is eligible to be a Stanley C. Golder Leadership Award recipient
- Candidates must have served as principal or head of school at one or more public or non-public schools for five or more consecutive school years
- Candidates must have exhibited exemplary performance and outstanding leadership in PreK-12th education

Nominations for awards will be accepted until December 15, 2017.
