Grants of up to $20,000 to British Columbia First Nations, nonprofit aboriginal arts and cultural organizations, and collectives for arts workshops and renovations of arts and cultural facilities. Funding is intended for minor capital renovations and improvements of community land-based Indigenous arts and culture workspaces. Funding is also intended for workshops focused on the transmission of arts skills and knowledge in all artistic disciplines.

Projects must be initiated and directed by Indigenous artists, arts and culture organizations or established unincorporated Indigenous arts collectives.

Through the Community Land-Based Arts program, communities will have the opportunity to create shared art spaces, which will:
- Increase accessibility for artists to practice art in their community
- Facilitate new groups and collectives coming together
- Increase the capacity for arts organizations and collectives to serve their communities
- Increase training and participation of artists
- Support the transfer of artistic knowledge and skills between generations

Eligible expenses include:
Small capital renovation costs and minor repairs, for example:
- Fixing drywall
- Painting
- Roof repair (not replacement)
- Art supplies

Estimated Size of Grant:

Grants for Community Land Based Arts projects will not exceed $20,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applications to this program will be accepted from:
- A registered not-for-profit Indigenous arts or culture organization in good standing, an active, unincorporated Indigenous arts collective, or a First Nation, based in British Columbia

For the purposes of this program, the term “Indigenous artists” refers to a person with Indigenous descent or heritage, and includes First Nations, Métis or Inuit practitioners of both traditionally based and/or contemporary/experimental art forms. Registered Indian Status is not required.

To be eligible, the applicant must:
- Have an artistic mandate that demonstrates a commitment to artistic practice and demonstrates artistic excellence
- Demonstrate the support, participation and direction of recognized Indigenous artists, cultural or community leaders
- Advance the work of emerging/recognized and knowledgeable Indigenous artists
- Present a realistic and balanced project budget, which clearly demonstrates financial need, and identifies other sources of revenue required to complete the project (if applicable)
- Indicate an achievable project timeline that works for the artist/mentor(s) involved
- Not have the same elements of the project funded through the BCAC support programs
- Unincorporated collectives must be directed by at least three Indigenous artists who have been residents of British Columbia for at least the past year
- Organizations, collectives and societies MUST be First Nations or Indigenous directed (at least 51% of directors)

The following expenses are NOT eligible for funding through this program:

Projects related to post-secondary education

Capital purchases, for example:
- Camera/video camera
- Computer/laptop
- Computer equipment
- Sewing machine, etc.
- Note: Equipment rentals are eligible
