Grants to Maryland nonprofit organizations that offer legal aid and civil legal services to low-income populations. First-time applicants must contact program staff prior to beginning an application. Funding is intended for operating support that will help in the provision of legal assistance to eligible clients in noncriminal proceedings or other matters.
The definition of “legal assistance” is the legal representation of eligible clients and includes training, research, coordination with private attorneys, and other activities necessary to insure the delivery of quality legal services. Client income eligibility is established as a maximum income of 50% of the median family income for the State of Maryland.
Operating grants support a wide range of legal services. Applicants may also request challenge grants, to be used to encourage new fundraising efforts.
