Grants ranging from $500 to $1,500 to North Carolina female ranchers, farmers, homesteaders, or processors to develop sustainable solutions to market and production obstacles. Projects may take place in Ashe, Alleghany, Caldwell, Avery, Watauga, Mitchell, Yancey, and Wilkes Counties. Funding may be used for a sustainable food and agriculture project, or the pursuit of related educational opportunities.

Sustainability means meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Sustainable Agriculture Systems integrate three main goals: environmental health, economic profitability, and social equity.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Applicants may apply for up to $1,500. Awards will range from $500 to $1,500.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grants will only be awarded to female farmers, ranchers, homesteaders and/or processors based in Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Caldwell, Mitchell, Watauga, Wilkes, or Yancey Counties in North Carolina.

Educational institutions are not eligible.

Proposals may be sent electronically or in hard copy. Proposals must be received no later than November 30, 2017. If you mail the application via postal service, it must be postmarked by or before the due date of the grant or it will not be considered.

Grant recipients must attend a mandatory orientation meeting shortly after being selected. This will be coordinated by BRWIA. Grant awardees are responsible for serving on the Grant Review Committee in 2019.

If you are awarded a Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture Sustainable Food and Agriculture Grant, you will be paid by reimbursement.

-October 3, 2017: Grant Application Released
-October 18, 2017: Call for proposals
-November 30, 2017: Grant Proposals Due
-January 1, 2018: Grant Awards Announced
-Mid-January 2018: Grantee Orientation
-November 1, 2018: Grantee Final Reports Due
