Grants to Hawaii nonprofit and for-profit organizations for services and programs that address homelessness in eligible local communities. Funding may be used for community outreach programs or for equipment purchases that promote hygiene among homeless populations. Activities must benefit the Island of Molokai or Central Maui, in the County of Maui.

Grant Fund Categories (2 Separate Categories):

Homeless Programs (Molokai)

  • Primary focus of program must include homeless outreach service on the island of Molokai only.
  • Outreach services on the island of Molokai must occur at least twice a month.
  • Applying organization and subsequent program must adhere to the Housing First approach.
  • Applying agency and applicable staff must be or become “access points” for the Coordinated Entry
  • Applying organization must be or become a member of the Bridging the Gap Continuum of Care.

Homeless Programs (Central Maui)

  • Primary focus of program must include the purchasing and operation of a homeless mobile hygiene unit to be located and operated in the Central Maui district only.
  • Applying organization and subsequent program must adhere to the Housing First approach.
  • Program must include homeless outreach services.
  • Applying agency and applicable staff must be or become “access points” for the Coordinated Entry System as defined by the Coordinated Entry System policy and procedures.
  • Applying organization must be or become a member of the Bridging the Gap Continuum of Care.

Qualifying Requirements for Applicants:

- Must be a profit organization incorporated under the laws of the State of Hawaii, or a nonprofit organization determined to be exempt from federal income tax by the Internal Revenue Service
- In case of a nonprofit organization, have a governing board whose members have no material conflict of interest and serve without compensation.
- Have bylaws or policies which describe the manner in which business is conducted. Such bylaws or policies shall include provisions relating to nepotism and management potential conflict-of-interest situations
- Be licensed and accredited in accordance with applicable requirements of federal, state, and County governments, as necessary

Grantee shall not use any grant funds for proposes of providing entertainment, food and beverages, or perquisites to Grantee’s employees or staff.
