Grants of up to $2,000 to Pennsylvania local units of government for educational projects. Projects should be in the focus areas of environment, conservation, and pollution. Funding is intended for the education of adults, including homeowners, contractors, government officials, and farmers. Funding is intended to increase local awareness of water quality issues and encourage citizen participation in activities to improve water quality in local watersheds. Education topics must address Nonpoint Source Pollution and Watersheds.

The funding provided through this program supports conservation districts to implement water quality and pollution prevention education programs. The Nonpoint Source Pollution Prevention Educational Mini-Grant Program will support Pennsylvania educational projects that:

  • Offer strategies for reducing and preventing Nonpoint Source (NPS) Pollution;
  • Target farmers, local government officials, contractors, homeowners and other adult audiences;
  • Promote the theme, We All Live Downstream, by addressing local Nonpoint Source (NPS) water pollution issues;
  • Educate the target audience on how their activities can impact water quality within their watershed; and
  • Encourage the target audience to take action to reduce NPS water pollution, improve local water quality and, ultimately, their local watershed(s).

  • Agriculture
  • Erosion & Sedimentation
  • Groundwater
  • NPS Pollution Awareness (General)
  • Soils
  • Stormwater
  • Watershed Awareness (General)
  • Wetlands

Estimated Size of Grant:

Up to $2,000.

Term of Contract:

In some circumstances, a grantee may be eligible to file a final report addendum where activities of the grant fall outside the project year. In this case, all expenses must still occur within the project year and a final reimbursement request must be filed with the final report (by May 14, 2021, at the latest).

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grants are awarded to conservation districts.

Pre-Application Information:

The deadline for applications for the 2020-21 Nonpoint Source Pollution Prevention Mini-grant Program for Conservation Districts is March 2, 2020.

Applications must be submitted online via the online application form. An acknowledgment that the application was received will be emailed within 3 business days.

Funding is provided on a reimbursement basis at the completion of the educational project.

Materials from previously funded mini-grant projects are available on the PACD website, Applicants are encouraged to use these materials in developing their own project.
