Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $1,000 to Genesee County, Michigan non-profits, schools and agencies to improve the visual landscape. Priority is given to initiatives that include beautification through planting of perennials and/or trees, or creating specific visual artwork using plants.

Projects may also include:
- Painting murals
- Graffiti removal and prevention
- Minimization of waste through recycling efforts
- Neighborhood blight cleanup.

Mini-grant funds may NOT be used for any of the following:
- Vegetable gardens or related materials
- Tools (including power tools)
- Gasoline
- Hiring and/or wages for staff or workers
- Cost of watering gardens/plants/trees
- Food and water for volunteers
- Planting at privately owned homes/businesses
- Planting on privately owned vacant lots
- Film and photo processing
- Silk/plastic flowers
- Annuals (petunias, impatiens, marigolds, etc.)
- Plant/tree/shrub not hardy in USDA Zone 5 or lower
- Yard waste bags, garbage bags and gloves (available free by calling KGCB).

Project must be completed by October 16, 2015.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Neighborhood associations, block clubs, community and civic groups, non-profit organizations, K-12 and higher education institutions, places of worship and municipalities doing projects on public spaces may apply.

Pre-proposal Conference:

To ensure that your application is correct and complete, KGCB highly recommends that you take advantage of the Technical Assistance sessions offered. You can get help with any aspect of the application from plant selection, completing your sketch and/or filling out the budget.

Two sessions are offered, either Monday, March 9 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm or Monday, March 16 from 4:00-6:00 pm at the KGCB office at 1509 E. Court Street in Flint, 48503 (located at the back of Woodside Church next to Mott Community College).

Pre-Application Information:

To apply, download the attached guidelines and application form. Complete pages 1-8 of the application with the required original signatures on page 3.

Submit your signed application in its entirety with original signatures by the deadline in order to be considered for funding. Applications may be mailed or dropped off to the KGCB office. Before you drop off an application, call ahead to arrange a time when someone will be in the office to accept it.
