Grants to Washington associations, businesses, and community, historical, cultural, educational, and recreational groups to enhance local tourism in eligible areas. Funding is intended to support programs, events, or activities that promote the city as a tourist destination. Eligible projects attract visitors to the City of Woodinville. The goal of the grant program is to increase the number of overnight stays in local hotels and stimulate the local economy.

Grant applications will be evaluated and awarded based on the marketing or operations of special events, programs, and activities, or on proposals of tourism-related facilities, that are designed to attract or support tourism to Woodinville. 

Requirements: 

  • Activities must take place within Woodinville boundaries or exclusively to promote Woodinville activities or organizations
  • The recipient and activity must be consistent with and further Woodinville’s image and goals.
  • The recipient and activity must be of general community interest or value.
  • Admission to or participation in the activity must be “free of charge” unless approved by the City.
  • The recipient must demonstrate that the activity submitted for funding is not duplicative or in competition with other Woodinville events, activities, or organizations.
  • Once an activity has been approved, the recipient must obtain all legally required permits, licenses, insurance, and approvals before City funds will be released.
  • A report must include information describing the actual number of people traveling for business or pleasure on a trip:

a. Away from their place of residence or business and staying overnight in paid accommodations;

b. To a place 50 miles or more from their place of residence or business for the day or staying overnight; or

c. From another country or state outside of their place of residence or their business.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Organizations eligible to receive grant funding include businesses and associations, as well as cultural, historical, educational, recreational, and community groups.

The recipient must provide full financial statements for the organization, as well as budget and actual financial statements for the activity submitted for funding.

Pre-Application Information:

The City of Woodinville is accepting applications for its Tourism Promotion Grant Program through August 13, 2020, by 12:00 pm.

Tourism Promotion Grants are expected to be awarded in December 2020.

Grant awards will be funded on a reimbursement basis.

Timeline of Grant Evaluation and Acceptance (Subject to Change Without Notice)
- July 1, 2020: Grant application solicitation period commences.
- August 13, 2020: Grant application period closes at 12:00 pm.
- September 1, 2020, 10:00 am: Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) reviews applications and decides on recommendations to the Woodinville City Council.
- September 15 or September 22, 2020: Council meeting. LTAC recommendations are presented to the City Council for consideration which starts the statutory 45-day period before final action can be taken.
- November 17, 2020, or December 1, 2020: Woodinville City Council awards the 2021 grants.
