Grants to Connecticut nonprofits located in the funder's service area to support both new and existing programs that will benefit the local community, with priority given to the towns of New Britain and Waterbury. Current funding priorities include education, human services, and arts and culture, with a special emphasis on the needs of youth, children, and families.

Funding focus is on direct service programs that help those with the highest need, and where funding can make a direct and measurable impact.

There is no set range for grants.

Funding is for one year. Recipients have the option to reapply annually.

Organizations must be tax exempt under IRS section 501(c)(3). Programs must primarily serve residents in one or more of the 64 towns served by American Savings Foundation. See full list of towns here: http://www.asfdn.org/about-towns.php

Not Funded:
-General operating support
-Endowments
-Individuals
-Religious institutions, except for non-sectarian activities that benefit the community at large.

Examples of program areas that do not fit the Foundation's funding priorities may include but are not limited to: environmental issues; biomedical research; religious institutions (except for non-sectarian activities that benefit the community at-large); political advocacy or lobbying; endowment funds; and annual campaigns. Also, because the Foundation operates a large college scholarship program (see Scholarships) it does not provide funding for scholarship programs operated by schools or other nonprofit organizations. With very few exceptions, the Foundation does not fund primary or secondary schools -- public, private independent, or parochial -- or colleges and universities.

The Foundation is interested in funding collaborative programs, and also in providing matching funds to leverage new dollars into the community.

First-time grant seekers are encouraged to call or email the Foundation staff to discuss a potential grant.

To submit a grant proposal for a program or agency that primarily serves residents of towns other than New Britain or Waterbury, please call or email the foundation first.
