Grants to Greater Des Moines, Iowa nonprofit organizations with a main focus of arts, culture, and heritage for operational support. New applicants must meet with Foundation staff prior to submitting an application. Applicant organizations must have their headquarters and operate most of their activities in one of the Foundation's partner communities.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Grant awards will generally be based on a percentage of an organization’s actual operating expenses for its most recently completed fiscal year. The percentage will be based on the following scale:
- Actual Expenses: $1 million and above
- Target Funding Range: 3% - 7%

- Actual Expenses: $250,000 – $999,999
- Target Funding Range: 5% - 9%

- Actual Expenses: Up to $249,999.99
- Target Funding Range: 5% - 15%

- Actual Expenses: Historical Societies
- Target Funding Range: 5% - 25%

Term of Contract:

The 2020 grant cycle (GC20) offers funding for expenses incurred between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible GC20 CEG applicants fall into one of two categories:
(1) An existing Bravo Cultural Partner that received CEG funding last year, in GC19.
or
(2) A 501(c) nonprofit organization with annual operating expenses of at least $5,000 and has a primary focus of arts, culture or heritage.

All CEG applicants must have headquarters in and conduct most of its activities within one of Bravo’s partner local government communities. Eligibility does not guarantee funding. Specific eligibility requirements may be waived at Bravo’s discretion.

Organizations ineligible for CEG funding include:
- Political, religious or educational organizations and institutions.
- Organizations formed with the express purpose of fundraising on behalf of or supporting and/or promoting an otherwise ineligible organization.
- Organizations seeking funding for: specific programs or capital projects; fundraising events; endowments; existing obligations, debts, liabilities or costs that the organization has already incurred.
- Any organization deemed ineligible by Bravo.

Pre-Application Information:

Any organization that did not receive CEG funding last year (in GC19) must meet with Bravo staff before October 1, 2019 to be eligible for funding.

Important Dates:
- September 9, 2019: Application available at 10:00 a.m.
- October 1, 2019: Deadline for new applicants to meet with Bravo staff
- October 11, 2019: Applications due by 3:00 p.m.
- December 6, 2019: Award notification sent
- December 20, 2019: Signed grant agreements due by 3:00 p.m.
- January 1, 2020: Funding term starts
- Week of January 6, 2020: First grant payment sent
- December 31, 2020: Grant term ends

Grant Award Process:
Award notifications will be sent via email December 6, 2019. Applicants awarded a GC20 Cultural Enrichment Grant will be required to sign a Grant Agreement by December 20, 2019. Grant awards over $1,000 will be disbursed in quarterly payments. Awards smaller than $1,000 will be paid in a single payment. The first disbursement will be made after execution of the Grant Agreement. A final grant report will be due at the end of the funding term.
