Grants of exercise equipment are available to New Mexico public elementary and middle schools serving low-income students. The award is comprised of strength training equipment, cardiovascular fitness equipment and interactive exercise games. The grant will include the design, delivery and installation of the equipment within the school's existing structure.

Priority will be given to applicant schools determined to have a significant low-income population demonstrated by a high percentage of students eligible to participate in free and reduced-price meal programs. Strong candidates will demonstrate a robust plan for using the equipment in building and improving their physical education and academic programs.

Approximately $100,000 worth of fitness equipment.

4. The school must have an 85% or greater free and reduced-price meal program per the National School Lunch Program.
5. The school must have a space for the equipment to be installed that meets the requirements set forth in the Physical Requirements and Conditions Form.

1. The space must be approximately 960-1,500 square feet. This is equivalent to a 24-ft x 40-ft room. (Please note that an area smaller than the recommended 1,500 square feet can accommodate class sizes of no more than 25 students.)
2. The space must be on the first floor of a building or the school must have a large elevator.

7. The ventilation system must adequately support a full class of students without concern for health or overheating issues.
