Grants of up to $50,000 to New York nonprofit organizations, tribes, and IHEs to increase rates of vaccination against the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic for minority men. The purpose of the program is to reduce barriers to obtaining the vaccine and address concerns about vaccines through education in order to close gaps in vaccination rates.

The New York State Department of Health Office of Minority Health, Health Disparities Prevention (NYSDOH, OMH-HDP) announces the availability of funds to support the Minority Male Wellness Screening Initiative (MMWSI). Funding is intended to provide services to reduce disparities in vaccination rates for COVID-19 by addressing concerns about the vaccine safety, efficacy, and reducing barriers to accessing the vaccine among minority men or people who identify as male in New York State designated minority areas.

The goal of the MMWSI is to reach racial and ethnic minority males or individuals who identify as male, with trusted, reliable information and services to increase demand for and access to vaccinations and health screening. For the purposes of this solicitation, “minority males” are defined as men who are American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian American, Black/African American, Latino/Hispanic, and Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander.

Applicants should discuss their ability to design and implement effective programs that can serve minority males or individuals who identify as males using relevant cultural, linguistics, age, gender, developmentally appropriate interventions, and strategies that demonstrate their ability to maintain linkages with organizations in their catchment area performing similar services.
