Grants of up to $25,000 to Nova Scotia charities, community groups, businesses, and organizations for programs that improve the lives of people with mental illness and addiction. Funding is intended to support services and projects that enhance mental health, assist those recovering from substance abuse disorders, and provide training in these areas.

The Foundation strives to fund programs that are developed by Nova Scotians who are passionate about changing the way people think about mental illness. Preference will be given to applications that:

  • Make a difference in the lives of Nova Scotians while contributing to our vision of Nova Scotians living with mental illness and addiction thriving in local communities
  • Demonstrate collaboration and partnership
  • Have a clear timeline and objectives
  • Provide financial, social, and economic value that is reflective of the current climate. 
  • Provide support to racialized and/or marginalized communities
  • Will have a measurable impact that is evidence-based or evidence-informed
  • Include a detailed budget that demonstrates an appropriate and fiscally responsible use of funds, whether as a charity or a for-profit business 
  • Identify community impact, including the number of people helped through the initiative
  • Are relevant, and sustainable with a vision for future growth
  • Are well-written with attention to overall quality including proper spelling, and grammar

The grant is open to all Charities, Community Groups, Businesses, and Organizations throughout Nova Scotia.

- Capital campaigns and projects

- General endowment funds
- Medical equipment
- Operating deficits or expenses (except initially for startups)
- Projects outside Nova Scotia
- Projects that should be funded by the government
- Requests over $25,000
- Research projects
