Grants of up to $2,000 to Rockford, Illinois non-profit organizations for programs and projects that celebrate the City's history, inspire the local community to value its traditions, preserve historical integrity, and invest in Rockford's heritage to help it grow. Possible projects include workshops, tours, surveys, exhibitions, events, and promotional materials and projects that highlight the value of historic preservation and its importance in the City.

The following criteria must be addressed in your application:
-Be collaborative in nature
-Inspire others regarding the value of historic preservation
-Be a catalyst for historic preservation
-Leverage other resources
-Priority will be given to collaborative projects

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for funding, an applicant must:
-Be a 501(c)(3) organization and/or organized group carrying out a charitable purpose for the public good
-Be located within the City of Rockford – “downtown” will be given highest priority
-Be operated and organized so that there is no discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, religion, age, national or ethnic origin, political beliefs, veteran’s status, disability, or any other factor prohibited by applicable law

Priority for funding will be given to non-tax supported organizations.

-Annual & capital campaigns
-Ongoing project and operating support
-Capital improvements
-Budget deficit
-Endowments
-Individuals
-Re-granting of funds
-Permanent equipment (unless it is an integral part of the program)
-Projects that promote a religion or require participation in a religious activity as a condition for receiving services. However, grants may be made to faith-based organizations for other purposes.

Pre-Application Information:

Only one proposal per organization per grant program will be considered during each grant cycle. Additionally, only one proposal per organization per grant program will be considered during the Community Foundation’s fiscal year (July 1 through June 30), unless invited by the grants committee to resubmit an application in the following grant cycle, or applying as part of a collaborative. Organizations participating in a collaborative may apply once a year as a member of the collaborative, and once as itself or as part of a second collaborative.

The Foundation reserves the right to update grant application forms 60 days before the deadline. Only applications started within 60 days of the deadline will be accepted. While you may browse the online application at any time, you are reminded to check your calendar before you begin filling out any grant application.

The Foundation provides a Budget Worksheet (attached below) to be attached with the online application.
